About Us

About Gareloch Riding for the Disabled

We were founded in 1976 and are very excited to soon be celebrating our 40th anniversary!

We are a registered charity (SC028645) and are affiliated to the national RDA. We cater for adults, children and young people and currently have over 50 riders with a wide range of abilities. Riders are able to attend weekly or fortnightly.

Our catchment area includes Helensburgh and the Lochside, Clydebank, Dumbarton, the Vale of Leven, and sometimes further afield where the local RDA Group cannot provide a service. All of our riding takes place at the Colgrain Equestrian Centre near Helensburgh and we are very appreciative of the support of the Spy family who own the Centre.

We run 10 sessions per week at various times of the day and our dedicated group of over 80 volunteers are always on hand to help. We are always looking for new volunteers since at times it takes 4 volunteers to assist an individual rider, so if you have an hour or more to spare we would be delighted to hear from you!

The upkeep of our 4 horses, Bobbie, Seven, Bella & Bruce is dependent on the funds raised from grants, donations and fundraising by our supporters. We are extremely grateful to all our supporters for their donations and ensure that every penny is put to good use. Everyone involved in the group is an unpaid volunteer and we thank them for all their incredible enthusiasm and dedication – we’d not be who we are without them!
